Grimdarkish terrain

I like to get Kill team boxes when I can. As they are quite expensive I am buying those boxes that I want to play with both warbands. Mix of small warbands (my favorite project type lately) and great multi purpose terrain is a perfect mix. and if you want all of the contenta thanks to terrain value ts not that prohibitive. I've finished my Kill team: Moroch box terrain ahead of the miniatures. Funnily I am yet to finish any Kill Team warband out of the box (I am closest with beautiful Ork Kommando team from second edition Opening set Ostarius. So here are my Moroch pieces which consist of Imperial bunker, landing pad, radar station, radio antena (hardly visible) and walls, plus some random pipes (GW pipes fit most of their sci fi terrain) to spice things up and look more natural (I love my terrain to look like it has a purpose - not standing randomly)

First batch is with (almost) finished Ork Kommandos I have with various stages of WIP but those two are almost ready to be called finished.

The terrain itself is very fun and easy to paint project. Easy to paint paint, not many skull ornaments so very universal and easy to put together. ANd most importantly sturdy. Highly recommend if you can pay the price.

Second batch is really first photo shot of my Kill team type cultists - but those guys are really from Blackstone Fortress (that explain the bases). Only some of them are usable in Kill Team as a basic lasgun cultist plus grenadier, sergeant and Commisar.. Ive build all specialist types but they are still grey plastic. 13 more plus beastmen. Only Ogre is almost finished. They will return when I finaly will finish him.

Yay - Comm tower in the background.!

I really like this terrain pieces- Will show you Bunker next time - That will be  frontier outpost in my games of any sci fi  type. SO far they served as a base of Necromunda gaming.

Ronins of the Shadowdeep - Zombies

When Rangers of the Shadowdeep were released we had an idea with a group of the gaming friends - lets try and do something unique with it - And that is how Ronins of the Shadowdeep was born.

But as my friends are creative so they are lazy and nobody finished anything.. I am gathering and building slowly some Japaneese models in the background. Ive stumbled on the file with enemies in the scenarios from the rulebook list and decided on impulse I want to get me some far Asian styled zombies, but as my knowledge of Japaneese folklore is very weak I decided to go for classic pop culture take. I did not wanted them to be just Asian looking zombies (as I dont like the looks of most of those. According to wiki Asian undead  common to China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam are called Jiangshi or Kyonshī in Japanese and "are depicted in popular culture to have a paper talisman (with a sealing spell) attached onto and hanging off the forehead in portrait orientation". Thats exactly what I wanted, although I wll skip mandarin dress (but I will make evil mandarin necromancer in the future).

So I went to look at what I have. only zombies I have laying around were the worst imaginable Wargame Factory Zombies. As pitifull as those models are they take green stuff nicely and work as dollies so I started to work.

First one is vanilla zombie with straw hat and paper talisman

Despite simplicity it should work as poor zombified peasant from some Japanese backwater. But its mostly ugly WF zombie, I wanted to have them more Japaneese (straw hat works wonder but I wanted more. So I checked my living models and decided to mock them in to unliving caricatures.

So those guys were made.

Once beautiful ex-Geysha.

A ronin chatracter

Zombie samurai

and some random villager/peasant (that hat with stylised clothing works wonders.)

I started to work on another one and have 5 more bodies to work with - Ill just have to invent what to do with them to Japaneese 6 more - I think Ill need around 10 for safe rulebook scenarios.

I am working on servants of the Shogun of Darkness (Shogun of Shadowdeep?) to counts as ghoul (accidental crafting them from another random set of not so hot miniatures - but more on them next time. :)

Chicken's 9

Last week was a really bad time, so Ive decided to make post to take my mind of the outgoing hell and photograph some miniatures at last.

Meet  Chicken's 9 my first finished Stargrave crew (I am yet to play as I write this lines). Its obviously starting crew and crew that started strangely. I wanted to make some kind of Trailer Park Boys characters for NPC and low level scum. And these boys were born!

They are quite different builds made from Frostgrave plastics joined together by common element of substance abuse.
First came Rick and Julian

Gnoll based Ricky was fun and easy build with armour added for a full blown Trooper character with heavy drinking problem

Accompanying him is Julian character that was random star biker  type that was meant to be random starport thug till I made them a Bubbles by accident after finally (damn brexit) getting Stargrave plastics. As both of his larger friends had an alcoholic beverages adding him a six pack of star beer seems natural. I looked at those guys and knew that they were good!

In gaming terms they are three Troopers/Sentries with automatic weapon and a some kind of armor but without fancy equipment.
And I liked them so much that I decided to make full blown crew of shady characters
. Ive decided to give them boys some extra with drug dealer styling and this guy was born, pistol armed ratty rogue with mysterious suitcase.. he may be a cracker or a hacker or just plain runner.. lets say he is as expendable as multi purpose :> Model is Ghost archipelago crewmen with skaven head and Stargrave arms.

Rest of the crew is more random and not abusing (I might went with full 8 abusers in the future and repurpose them to a full blown band but for now they are accompanied by strange alien twins

Stargrave crew (at least at the beginning of its career) needs a ligher armed troopers  with some degree of specialization so here are Hacker specialising in Windows :) and chiseller. Some say they are bunch of thieves but nobody catched them so doesn't count! Pair is practically vanilla SG crew models - those box are very cool.

But I needed more competent and elite specialist so by having fun with components. So meet ashigarish alien mysterious machinegunslinger with no name. He is made from Frostgrave deamon infantry and Stragrave arms (everything can be made sci fi with those arms and there are plenty spares in the box.
And he is accompanied by Doggo commando

I wanted him to have a tie in with Trailer Park boys so I made him space gopnik in sports trouser..
So this is Chickens 8th but he need second in commend.
Sinister Dr Monkey was build by pure accident but this space archeologist/tomb robber works well with an unsavory crew. He was built by combining Wargames atlantic halfing I got for making wargaming survey and Frostgrave arms with Necromunda Arbites silly giant gun. I love him. He might lead his own rougish crew in the future.

And finally, The Man (chicken) himself. Captain Sinister Chicken.

Much more heroic character than his fellow crewmen but in hard times one have to recruit based on availability not on a merit and great cv..

Truly a band of brothers :>

Some random models finished in 2021

I am alive, and I will try to update the forgotten blog from time to time, here are few photos of my recent models to prove I was doing stuff just neglected photographing then and writing notes :>

This has to be one of my favorite Frostgrave model - and I love Frostgrave models in general. This Ogre is simply beautiful.

Designed by Bobby Jackson, at ease, still standing but menacing .

Continuing with Ogre theme (that was my painting theme in December (I did those and do a lot of work on mutated Ogres from Rogue trader box) wonderful undeadish (or just neglected if you want Ogres from great but elusive Cursed city box.
I love those Ogrish haiduks with berdishes and furry hats.

Next batch of models were Vikings (Son with their own entry - I finished 6 point Saga Vikings / Varjags (Pagan Russ) war band of AEwulf - old guest on the blog

And Stargrave.

I will get Stargrave metals when they will be available to buy around (go to hell Brexit) but now I am having fun with plastics .

So expect to see blog post on Captain Sinister Chicken and his band of drunkards and misfits. Substance abuse was a theme for some of the henchmen.

See you all soon
